Our Story

Inspired by the cancer diagnosis of his grandmother in 2011, Virginia Tech student Patrick Acker fundraised for cancer research and counseling by crossing the country on his bicycle during the summer of 2013.

Joined by fellow VT student Morgan Bissell, Acker cycled from San Francisco, California to Virginia Beach, Virginia. The journey took 46 days, and covered 3,342 cycling miles.

During the team’s journey, stops were made at Children’s Cancer Hospitals to donate bikes to kids with cancer. To date, the team has donated 23 bicycles nationwide with plans to increase this number across upcoming campaigns.

The organization has been quiet for over a year, but now, we are back and better than ever! Thanks to our supporters and new partners, Cycling4aCure will continue in its work.

We are excited to announce that Cycling4aCure has been accepted as the official philanthropy of Virginia Tech’s chapter of Alpha Tau Omega!

During the 2013-2015 school year, our team donated numerous bikes to kids with cancer, raised thousands for Cindy’s Hope Chest, and completed a 200-mile, 3-day cycling tour from Blacksburg, VA to Charlotte, VA and a 2nd trip to Roanoke, VA! Thanks to our new partners, Cycling4aCure is back on the map!
